Description
The Sirius Ship
The Sirius ship is a fictional trawler, used by Tintin, Captain Haddock and Cuthbert as part of an expedition to search for the treasure of Red Rackham. Prior to the expedition, Captain Haddock specifically requests to use the Sirius. The Sirius was named after the SS Sirius, the first ship to successfully journey across the Atlantic Ocean under steam power. In the Adventures of Tintin, despite being named after a steamship, the design of the Sirius was based upon the design of John -0.88, a trawler that existed between 1936-1941. Detailed plans, as well as a small-scale model were collected from the builders in order to bring the Sirius to life.
The Sirius Model Ship
The range of sailing ships featured in the Adventures of Tintin is iconic. These adventures can now be relived with a pre-made model of the ship from the expedition. The sail plans and fittings are exact replicas of the original. Tintin’s sailing ship model combines a traditional hull shape with a noble wooden configuration style. The parts are designed and cut to meet a high standard of quality. Once made, the hull is sanded and smoothed. To finish the prefabricated model, several coats of varnish are applied to achieve an immaculate finish.
