About the Sijla Symphony:
Owned by the Estonian shipping company Tallink Group and operated by the Sijla Line, the MS Sijla Symphony is a cruise ferry which connects Helsinki, Finland to Stockholm, Sweden. She was constructed in 1991 at Masa-Yards Turku New Shipyard in Finland. She Sijla Symphony was launched on 1 June 1991 and continues to operate on a routine path between Helsinki and Stokholm. In 2006, prior to the sale of the Sijla Line to Tallink, the Sijla Symphony was fully renovated and transformed into a modern cruise ship.
Externally, the Symphony highly resembles her sister ship, the MS Sijla Serenade. However, there are differences between the two, which can be seen by those with a keen eye for detail. The Symphony’s outer decks are light blue, while her sister’s decks are painted in green. The eyes of the seal in the Symphony’s funnel are blue, but they are white on the Serenade. One of the most striking features of the Sijla Symphony is her promenade centreline; a pedestrian street which lies at the centre of the ship and allows passengers to explore a variety of cafes and shops within the ship.
Making of the Sijla Symphony Ship Model
The construction process begins with extensive research and planning, to ensure that the ship model is replicated as accurately as possible. The ship model is then scratch-built by master craftsmen, using her original plan and photographs.
The building process requires hundreds of hours of work before completion and undergoes a stringent quality control process before leaving the workshop. The team of master craftsmen make use of their skills and expertise to build the hulls and bridges exclusively out of hand picked hardwoods, in order to create the structure of the ship model. The plank-on-frame technique is then employed to follow the unique curve of each ships hull. In order to create a smooth finish, the model ship is sanded and varnished, before the painting begins. An undercoat layer is added, to create a smooth and even surface. The paint is then selected and matched to the colour of the original ship. The details on this ship have been replicated using polished brass, metal finishes. Each of these processes are executed in sync with the customer’s customisation requirement or matched perfectly with the ship’s original layout. The ship model is then packaged carefully, to ensure that ensure for a smooth and safe transit to our clients.
This Sijla Symphony model ship has been constructed in detail and is mounted on a solid wooden base with brass name plate. This model would make a stunning addition for any space.
This model is not a kit and is ready for display.
