Classic Yacht & Boats
Ready made models of classic yachts and traditional wooden boats, including gaff rigged cutters, schooners, launches and pond yachts. Built, rigged and mounted, and finished to show the timber rather than hide it. A natural choice if the appeal of a boat is the woodwork.

Wellcraft Scarab Display Ship Model – GN
Classic boats translate well into model form because their appeal is the timber itself. These models are built to show that, with planked hulls, laid decks, varnished coachroofs and brightwork left visible rather than painted over.
What is in the range
Traditional sailing craft and working sail, elegant pre-war yachts with long overhangs and low freeboard, gaff cutters and schooners, motor launches, and pond yachts of the kind sailed on park lakes. Rigged models are supplied with standing and running rigging set up and sails set, furled or omitted depending on the design. Launches and runabouts focus instead on hull finish, cockpit joinery, screens and deck hardware.
Materials and finish
Hulls are planked in timber with brass and nickel fittings, and finished with varnish, oil or paint according to the boat. On a bright finished model there is nowhere for poor planking to hide, which is why these take longer to build than a painted hull of the same size and why the Superior and Premier ranges are worth the step up here in particular.
Where they suit
Rooms where the wood tone matters: studies, libraries, boat club rooms, older properties and interiors with existing timber furniture. They also make good gifts for sailors with an interest in traditional boats, where a modern production yacht model would not carry the same appeal.
Common questions
What is a pond yacht?
A free sailing model yacht, traditionally sailed on lakes and park ponds without radio control. Ours are built for display rather than sailing.
Can I have a model of my own classic boat?
Yes, through our custom model ships service, built from your photographs or the yard drawings.
How should a varnished model be cared for?
Keep it out of direct sunlight and away from radiators, and dust with a soft brush rather than a cloth, which can catch on fittings.
