About the RMS Titanic

The RMS Titanic was one if three transatlantic steamships produced by the White Star Line. J. Bruce Ismay, the managing Director of the White Star Line envisioned a series of steamship, designed to be a hallmark of luxury, comfort and safety.

Construction of the Titanic began in May of 1909. The immense size of the ship meant that the White Star’s Pier in New York had to be reconstructed to allow for the Titanic to dock. The Titanic was 883 feet long, 92 feet wide and 104 feet tall. She existed as one of the tallest ships of her time and the largest man-made moveable structure, often towering over the urban buildings as she approached. The Titanic was publicised as an ‘unsinkable’ ship, fitted with a double-hull made of 1-inch thick steel plates and 16 watertight compartments, which would automatically be sealed through the use of water-sensors. On board, the Titanic boasted modern and luxury accommodations, and an array of amenities; including a Turkish Bath, a gym, a swimming pool, libraries, squash courts and a variety of high-end restaurants.

The Titanic’s first and last journey began on April 10, 1912, from Southampton, with over 100,000 attending the launching. In the following days, the weather was mild and several icebergs had broken loose and drifted from the arctic. Although several ice-warnings received by the crew, it was concluded that the Titanic was not in danger. Unfortunately, the unusually calm weather and lack of waves, meant that the icebergs became difficult to spot. On April 14, an iceberg was spotted. The captain ordered for the ship to be steered around, but her sheer size and speed made this task impossible. At 11:40 pm, the Titanic struck the iceberg, leading to one of the most unforgettable turn of events in history.

About the RMS Titanic model ship

The RMS Titanic model ship has been scratch-built by the master craftsmen, using her original plan and photographs. This special edition is a large-scale ship model which can be bought in two different sizes.

This model requires hundreds of hours of work before completion and undergoes a stringent quality control process before leaving the workshop. The team of master craftsmen make use of their skills and expertise to build the hulls and bridges exclusively out of hand-picked hardwoods. Also used for building real-life ships, the construction method used is known as the plank-on-frame technique, and takes years to master. In order to create a smooth finish, the model ship is sanded and varnished, before the painting begins. The details on this ship have been replicated using polished brass and metal finishes. Once completed, the RMS Titanic model ship would make an exquisite memorabilia to any space. The model is mounted on a solid wooden base and includes a brass plate.

This model is not a kit and is ready for display.
