Coweslip is the most famous model of the Flying Fifteen range designed by legendary Uffa Fox in 1947. This 6 metres (20 feet) keelboat became very popular right after its launching, as it was presented as a wedding gift to Duke of Edinburgh and Princess Elizabeth. The design and sail plan of the ship has been developed and modernised over the years with the agreement of Uffa Fox to deliver even more performed sailing boat.
The rising popularity of this keelboat resulted in creation of International Federation of Flying Fifteen Associations formed by nine countries to launch the first world championship in Perth in 1979. Europe’s first championship in this category was held in 2004 in Spain. The races take place at sea as well as on inland waters, however the Flying Fifteen is best suited to large lake reservoirs where it can show its full performance.
